This video was presented at Teachers College, Columbia University during a Vocal Pedagogy class. The intent is to show how tongue tension sometimes evinces itself in singing and give a basic understanding of the problems that arise and basic suggestions for dealing with tongue tensions that inhibit proper vocal coordination. It is not meant to fully diagnose or be a complete corrective course for these kinds of issues. This video covers one facet of a multi-system problem in a singing voice. In this video I am looking at the tongue with a focused lens, explaining some of the issues that arise with the tongue and giving a few suggestions for dealing with it. It is by no means meant to be a complete treatment for this kind of issue, merely a starting point for understanding tongue tensions in a singing voice.
